Emirates Palace To Host World Polo Championship
(1 October 2013)

Emirates Palace is planning to host an international Polo tournament in November as the hotel is pushing ahead with plans to become one of the most important hallmarks of tourism in the country, its new general manager has said.

Holger Schroth said the hotel on the western seaside of Abu Dhabi city also has plans to organize exciting celebrations on the 42nd anniversary of the UAE national day on December 2.

He said Emirates Palace, managed by Europe’s oldest hospitality chain Kempinski, has already become an “icon” for Abu Dhabi’s tourism.

“The hotel will organize the second polo championship in November and it welcomes all those who love the game from Abu Dhabi and the whole world…the event is part of the hotel’s efforts to promote tourism in Abu Dhabi emirate,” Schroth said.

He said Emirates Palace has also been officially named for the Formula 1 while it will host many other important events in the next period.

Schroth, who has taken over as general manager recently, said he had already devised a plan to further develop the hotel, starting with the restaurants, mainly Mezlai, the first to be specialized in UAE cuisine.

“We always listen to the opinions of our guests and visitors to maintain the hotel’s high position on the local and global level and to stimulate the tourism sector in Abu Dhabi,” he said.

“We are seeking to maintain this position by investing in our staff and offering the best services and facilities….our goal is to continuously improve and develop these services to ensure Emirates Palace will remain the top hotel on all levels…to ensure success, we have to keep developing our staff, create, innovate and upgrade our facilities…we never s top monitoring our food outlets and our beach facilities.”

He said new food menus had been prepared at the hotel’s restaurants including Mezlai, Le Vendome, Sayyad, BBQ Al Qasr, Mezzaluna, Cascades and other food and beverage outlets.

Schroth said Emirates Palace is also planning to participate in several external events, including exhibitions, conferences and workshop[s in the UAE, other Gulf countries, Europe and other parts of the world in the last quarter of 2013 and through 2014 in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority.

About the hotel’s clients, he said the GCC, China and Russia have been the main markets for Emirates Palace, adding that the hotel intends to make special offers for Eid Al Adha with up to 20 per cent discounts for families and other guests from the GCC countries. “These offers show the hotel’s keenness to maintain its traditional markets,” he said.

He said Emirates Palace is closely cooperating with the Authority and that the two have what he described as a strategic partnership. He said the Authority is playing a substantial role in promoting Abu Dhabi in other markets through its offices in Europe and other areas.

“I believe that through cooperation and the Authority’s efficient management, we will together achieve high degrees of hospitality services in Abu Dhabi…I am sure the Authority is playing a major role in achieving sustainable tourism in the emirate and turning it into one of the most important travel and tourism destinations,” he said.
Asked about Etihad Airlines, he said the company is also playing a key role in linking Abu Dhabi with the outside world and in helping Emirates Palace to attract more visitors to the emirate.

Schroth said Abu Dhabi is witnessing a boom in the tourism sector, adding that this would turn the emirate into the top destination in the region for tourism, shopping, entertainment and conference events.

“This is possible through its advanced infrastructure thanks to the efforts of the Authority, which is seeking continuously to develop the hospitality sector in the emirate to attract more visitors and investment in the sector.”
